A Captured Moment From This Past Week…
L to R: Dot Clyde, Jack Turner, Kaitlyn Miller and Keagen Petty 2024-25 Sherwood Middle School Builders Club Officers
It was inspiring to see these four students present to the Sherwood School District Board of Education last Monday night. They shared details about Builders Club from the international to the local level. They also showcased this past year and all the projects that they have been doing to better the lives of others… from their first project to raise funds for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF to their last project to do Random Acts of Kindness around school.
Do You Know How Many Countries Offer Builders Club to Their Students? (answer will be at the end.)
Just to give you a heads-up… the Kiwanis of Tigard See’s Candies Mother’s Day fundraiser will begin TODAY. The link will shortly be on our website. But you can also reach it by clicking HERE. Remember that this is an opportunity to purchase candy for your loved ones for this special occasion, and at the same time, help our Kiwanis Club with a fundraiser. The items you order will be delivered directly to your doorstep… another plus! This fundraiser closes on May 2nd, allowing for plenty of time for delivery before Mother’s Day.
It looks like we have thirteen members planning to go to McMenamins on Tuesday, April 22nd to support the Kiwanis of Cedar Hills Imagine Possibilities project. The address is: 6179 SW Murray Blvd., Beaverton. We have a reservation for 6:30 p.m. Remember, 50% of what we spend that night will support this worthy cause, which is a day activities program for individuals who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Don’t forget the Board meeting, being held Wednesday evening at the Deibert’s home at 7:00 p.m. We’ll be discussing several important issues, so we hope that all Board members can attend!
The committee to plan the upcoming Tigard Farmers Market booth will be meeting via Zoom on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Plans for our display will be finalized. A “dry run” for setting up the booth will occur on Friday, May 2nd at 5:00 p.m. in the driveway of the Anderson’s home. The actual booth will be set up on Sunday, May 4th starting at 8:30 a.m. and closing at 1:00 p.m. All members are encouraged to stop by and visit the booth at 9100 SW Burnham St., Tigard.
A special opportunity to work with other Kiwanians and Key Clubbers from throughout the Greater Area Portland Division is coming up on Saturday, April 26th. Show up for the Fantasy Yarn Wig project. There is a 10:00 to 11:30 shift and an 11:30 to 1:00 shift. The location is at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Don’t forget that they are asking for a $15 donation from Kiwanis attendees to help allay the cost of supplies. If you wish to sign up, click HERE. Or you can just show up… walk-ins are welcome!
The Key Club is holding their annual Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, April 26th from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Sherwood High School is at 18800 SW Haide Rd., Sherwood. There is a $5 entry fee.
On Sunday, April 27th at 5:00 p.m., the Key Clubbers who attended their District Convention are presenting to the Kiwanis Club. The location is the Tigard United Methodist Church at 9845 SW Walnut Pl, Tigard. Refreshments will be served.
Here is another section of the recent slide presentation made by our Membership Committee… These are ideas for doing a better job of marketing our club in the community. Which ones do you think we should make stronger efforts to do?
